Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, affecting ~5 million people in developed world alone. The prevalence IBD increased 30 folds in Hong Kong over the last few decades. The diagnosis of IBD is difficult, due to great similarities in clinic symptoms between IBD and other gastrointestinal disorders.
